Igniting Lifelong Learning: Integrating Museum Visits Into Curriculum With The Witte | $75

Museums are a place of learning, inspiration, and enjoyment, contributing educational content for audiences of all ages. At the Witte, we inspire people to shape the future of Texas through transformative experiences in nature, science, and culture. Join us to learn how a field trip can become an ignition point for lifelong learning for your students. By engaging in several hands-on activities, you will learn how to integrate a museum visit with your curriculum. And we will talk about ways to break down the barriers to taking school field trips.

Workshop Length: 3 Hours, 1:00 PM–4:00 PM, Wednesday, November 13

Join us for a fun and informative excursion! (Transportation included.)

Workshop Length: 1.5 Hours, 3:30 PM–5:00 PM, Wednesday, November 13

Gain the skills and confidence you need to inspire your students HOW to think, not WHAT to think, about complex environmental issues, such as forest conservation, climate change, and water resources. Participants will receive a certificate for their TEEAC approved credit hours. PLT teaches you everything you need to know to engage your students in these fun, hands-on lessons. Student worksheets are included. Each participant will each receive an activity guide.

Workshop Length: 6 Hours, 9:00 AM–3:30 PM, Wednesday, November 13

Curiosity Unleashed: Inquiry-Based Learning at The Doseum | $25

Students are naturally curious. As educators we can channel this curiosity into inquiry-based learning, investigating, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Maker-Centered Learning (MCL) and Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) are interdisciplinary, constructivist approaches to learning and teaching that are based on guided inquiry. Each approach encourages learners to slow down and look closely. VTS is rooted in discussion—providing a method for creating safe spaces for conversation that focuses on elaborating on what is seen by finding and communicating supporting evidence. MCL is rooted in deconstructing the designed world to understand better the parts that make up the whole—whether objects or systems. MCL empowers learners to become agents of design who can make their world into whatever they imagine! In this training, you will be introduced to these approaches through hands-on/minds-on activities, reflection, and discussion.

Workshop Length: 2 Hours, 6:00 PM–8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 13
